Cowboys at Packers: Green Bay Is the Pick, but the Models See a Close Game
Green Bay remains our outright pick at 58.4%, but the separate point model projects Dallas ahead by just 0.74 points. Tonight is a modest Packers lean with a real disagreement underneath it, not a strong consensus about the score.
Dallas visits Lambeau Field on Sunday, October 18, at 7:20 p.m. CDT, with NBC carrying the game. The Packers’ official viewing guide has the broadcast details.
Sunday operations refreshed prices and availability context. The predictions are still the ones issued Tuesday, October 13, at 2:48 p.m. CDT; they have not been retrained or adjusted for the latest news.

Green marks the predicted outright winner. Winning, covering a spread and clearing a total are separate forecasts.
The original picks and projected points
| Market | Saved pick | Saved probability |
|---|---|---|
| Outright winner | Green Bay | 58.4% |
| Spread | Green Bay −1 | 50.2% |
| Total | Under 53 | 52.9% |
All five winner models favor Green Bay, but their estimates range from 50.3% to 67.4%. Two are barely above even. Models can share information and errors, so five agreeing selections are not five independent confirmations.
The separate XGBoost margin and total models project:
| Point-model output | Frozen projection |
|---|---|
| Dallas points | 25.84 |
| Green Bay points | 25.10 |
| Dallas winning margin | 0.74 |
| Combined points | 50.94 |
The winner blend and the point model answer different questions using different fitted models. We keep both visible: Green Bay is the recorded winner selection; Dallas narrowly leads the score projection. The projected total is 2.06 points below the original 53, but that distance is not itself an under probability. Scores, margin and total are rounded independently from the saved values.
Green Bay −1 at 50.2% is essentially an even spread call. A one-point Packers win would push that selection, and a 53-point game would push the original total. The export supplies no separate push probabilities. The spread blend uses three trained models; the totals blend also includes two neutral 50% proxy contributions.
The probabilities remain raw and uncalibrated. Recent forecast performance keeps the project’s monitoring status at YELLOW, which is reason to put less weight on narrow edges. It does not change the saved picks or automatically make Dallas the better selection.
What changed in Sunday’s prices
The latest BetMGM observation was saved Sunday at 10:32:08 a.m. CDT. Keeping the bookmaker consistent lets us compare the five observations directly. Other books can quote different numbers.
| Observation | Moneyline, GB / DAL | Spread and price | Total and price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tue., Oct. 13, 12:29 p.m. | −120 / +100 | GB −1 (−110) / DAL +1 (−108) | 53: Over −108 / Under −110 |
| Wed., Oct. 14, 12:22 p.m. | −120 / +100 | GB −1 (−110) / DAL +1 (−108) | 53: Over −110 / Under −108 |
| Thu., Oct. 15, 11:35 a.m. | −120 / +100 | GB −1 (−110) / DAL +1 (−108) | 53: Over −110 / Under −108 |
| Fri., Oct. 16, 12:03 p.m. | −115 / −105 | GB −1 (−108) / DAL +1 (−110) | 53: Over −110 / Under −108 |
| Sun., Oct. 18, 10:32 a.m. | −115 / −102 | GB −1 (−108) / DAL +1 (−110) | 53.5: Over −110 / Under −108 |
All observation times are CDT.
Green Bay’s moneyline and spread held from Friday to Sunday morning. Dallas’s moneyline moved from −105 to −102, and the total rose 53 → 53.5. Since Tuesday’s earliest saved observation, the Packers’ moneyline has eased from −120 to −115 while their spread stayed −1.
The spread still matches the forecast’s threshold. The saved 52.9% Under 53 probability does not apply to Under 53.5. At exactly 53 combined points, the original under pushes while Sunday’s under wins. No updated probability at 53.5 has been calculated.
Saturday’s capture was missed, so the weekend comparison spans Friday to Sunday. Tuesday is our first saved observation, not a verified opener; these Sunday morning prices are not closing lines. The observations tell us what changed, not which news or betting activity caused it.
Dallas–Green Bay has no qualifying recommendation under the existing Sunday portfolio filters. Selecting a likely winner and finding a qualifying price remain separate judgments.
Three things to watch at Lambeau
Can Green Bay establish an early-down running game? The Packers average 60.4 rushing yards per game and have yet to reach 100 in a game this season. Dallas has allowed 168.4 per game. That gives MarShawn Lloyd and the blocking front an opportunity, but weak season averages on both sides do not tell us which unit will improve tonight. Repeatable gains would leave Jordan Love fewer difficult passing situations. Packers running-game preview.
Can the Packers limit explosive passes without relying on another turnover haul? CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens combined for 857 receiving yards through five games. Green Bay forced five Chicago turnovers last week. The test tonight is whether it can contain Dallas’s receivers and make Dak Prescott sustain drives even when takeaways do not arrive. Official matchup analysis.
How much will the available defensive personnel matter? Green Bay ruled cornerback Benjamin St-Juste and defensive tackles Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Ford out. Cornerback Brandon Cisse and defensive tackle Anthony Campbell are questionable. Keisean Nixon finished Friday without a game designation, updating the limited-practice note in our Friday post. Those decisions shape the coverage and front against Dallas. Packers final injury report.
Dallas downgraded linebacker DeMarvion Overshown to out on Saturday. Cornerback Cobie Durant and tackle Drew Shelton are also out; Joey Porter Jr., L.T. Overton and Ameer Speed remain questionable in the latest official updates reviewed Sunday morning. Cowboys dated updates.
Green Bay placed Hargrave and Ford on injured reserve Saturday. On offense, it activated receiver Savion Williams from injured reserve after listing him questionable Friday. Activation makes him eligible; it does not establish that he will play. Final game-day inactives remain unverified at this Sunday morning checkpoint. Saturday roster moves, Friday designation.
The Packers’ path is steady early-down offense and a defense that makes Dallas work for its points. Dallas’s path is explosive passing and enough run stops to force Love into obvious throwing situations. A 58.4% forecast leaves substantial room for either script.
Around the rest of the board
Sunday’s 10:32 a.m. refresh covers 12 games still pregame across 11 bookmakers. Seattle–Denver had finished, and Houston–Jacksonville in London had already kicked off. Neither received a new pregame quote, and this run did not verify or import a London result.
Selected Friday-to-Sunday BetMGM moves:
| Matchup | Friday | Sunday morning |
|---|---|---|
| Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay | TB +2.5; total 39.5 | TB +1.5; total 38 |
| Baltimore at Cleveland | CLE +3.5; total 40.5 | CLE +3; total 39.5 |
| Chicago at Atlanta | Total 52 | Total 51 |
| Chargers at Kansas City | KC −8 | KC −7.5 |
| Washington at San Francisco, Monday | Total 51.5 | Total 52 |
Monday’s total is now 1.5 points above Tuesday’s 50.5. The original Over 50.5 at 51.6% remains a forecast for that earlier threshold, not for 52. San Francisco remains the frozen 76.8% outright pick; the Friday post has the fuller Monday preview and Thursday’s results.
Denver’s overtime win put our published Thursday winner record at 3–3. Tonight goes on the record as Green Bay to win, Green Bay −1 and Under 53, regardless of subsequent prices. The full Week 6 preview preserves all fourteen original selections; the follow-up will compare tonight’s outcome with the separate Dallas 25.84–Green Bay 25.10 point projection.
Source note: This post uses Sunday’s operations package at prediction-repository revision 3f5f6b0 and the unchanged October 13 forecast. Prices were observed at 10:32 a.m. CDT Sunday; official football reporting was rechecked Sunday morning. Friday designations and Saturday amendments are distinguished from final inactives. Companion editorial evidence retains source hashes, full-precision forecasts and dated market observations.
